Status and roadmap
Design phase: tested in software, not yet built.
No unit has been built or measured yet. Below is what exists and is tested, what comes next, and what only a physical prototype can tell us.
Done Works in software
- Reference software
Thermal model and kit checks
- Reference software
Control and safety logic (setpoint clamp, flow interlock, heating taper, watchdog)
- Protocol
OPL protocol (Open Peltier Link), with golden frames shared by Python, Rust and C++
- Firmware
Pico 2 firmware core matches the reference (compiles, not yet run on hardware)
- Hub
ESPHome hub component with Home Assistant entities and night schedules (compiles for ESP32-S3, not yet run on hardware)
- Hardware
Three kits and a parts catalog listed by role (designed, not yet built)
- Hardware
Shopping list for prototype 0 (Solo Starter), every line mapped to a parts role
- Hardware
Step-by-step build guide for prototype 0, from the bench to the bed
- Firmware
Firmware releases and a browser installer for the hub
Next Next
- Hardware
Verify the remaining parts against datasheets
- Firmware
Fan and pump PWM control
- Firmware
Firmware update path over OPL
- Software
Rename code identifiers to the new project name in one sweep
Help wanted Prototype 0: the bench build and its measurements
Every temperature on this site is a model estimate. The bench build comes first; its measurements replace estimates with data.
- Prototype 0 bench build (Solo Starter, 10 l water container as thermal load), following the build guide
- Body-to-water heat transfer through a typical topper (heated dummy pad at 34 °C)
- Cold-plate thermal resistance per Peltier with real clamping
- Heatsink resistance vs. fan noise (target ≤ 30 dB(A))
- Piezo signal quality per grid position across sleeping positions
- Condensation at 15 °C water and 60 % RH
Decided
Open decisions that are settled
| # | Topic | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| D1 | Licenses | Hardware CERN-OHL-S-2.0; software and docs Apache-2.0. |
| D2 | Control MCU | Raspberry Pi Pico 2 (RP2350) in both tiers. |
| D3 | Hub | ESP32-S3 with ESPHome as the default; a Raspberry Pi as an option for heavier biometrics. |
Still open: a medical cooling pad for the first mat (D4) and a vibration alarm in v1 (D5). See OPEN-DECISIONS.md.
